Research Study Activities
Country Risk Research Studies
Country surveys are conducted by JCIF covering over 100 different countries, based on information gathered by JCIF staff through local research. Concerted efforts are made to elaborate on the results of this analysis through opinion exchanges with the World Bank, the IMF, the Asian Development Bank, other international institutions, the academic world, businessmen and women, and through the convening of committee meetings as well as other means.
Specifically, the latest and most accurate information is constantly gathered on political, economic, social trends and developments, external debt and other factors of countries around the world. For approximately 40 of these countries, analysis is conducted on the current political and economic situation, problem areas, and emerging trends to produce five-year forecasts on the domestic economic situation and international balance of payment finance. The results of these forecasts are used as the basis for the issuing of ratings. In the event of important changes in specific conditions, these ratings are updated as required.
Cooperation is also received from experts in the political and economic issues of the countries covered. As well, the center produces questionnaire studies which are structured to probe direct overseas investment trends, and which are conducted annually.

Monthly surveys on exchange-rate prospects are also conducted, through the cooperation of currency dealers at major banks, trading companies, and manufacturing concerns.

Lectures on risk control systems are held periodically, featuring experts on market risk, credit risk, and operational risk. Studies are also performed on the activities of domestic and overseas rating agencies.
